Boston man faces assault charges

A 38-year-old Boston man is free on $300,000 bail after being charged with sexually assaulting a teenage boy in the steam room of the Gasparilla Inn on December 28.

Police identified the suspect as Carl Stanley McGee of 717 Atlantic Avenue in Boston. According to the Lee County Sheriff’s Office, McGee allegedly assaulted the victim, who was a guest at the Inn, sometime in the afternoon on Friday, December 28. The victim then reported the incident to an employee of the Inn who, in turn, contacted the police.

Police report states that the victim said he had spoken briefly with McGee the day before while using the same facilities. On the day of the assault, the victim was already in the steam room when McGee came in, removed the towel he was wearing and began rubbing the victim’s shoulders. He then performed oral sex on the teen.

Lee County Sheriff’s Office Special Victim’s Unit attempted to conduct an interview with McGee on the day of the assault, but he refused because his attorney was not present. On the same day, a local sheriff’s deputy who was at the Inn investigating the incident saw a person who matched McGee’s description, approached him and asked to speak with him. McGee went willingly with the deputy and, according to police, was positively identified by the victim.

McGee was transported to the Lee County Jail and charged with sexual assault on a victim over 12 years of age with physical force. He was released on $300,000 cash bond with a court date of January 28.

McGee has no family on the island.
