If they are going to require tags/registration, insurance, turn signals, and etc…then I do not understand how they would be any different then any other vehicle on the street.

Moderator’s note, again: The proposed ordinance would not require tags or registration. Turn signals would be required for night operation. The ordinance would, however, require liability insurance.

If I understand it correctly, this would allow golf carts to operate anywhere a car does.

This will do wonders for traffic circulation. Now everybody will be allowed to drive their golf cart on any public street; including Gilchrist, Gulf Blvd, and even Gasparilla Rd.

Moderator’s note: Actually, you don’t understand it correctly. Current law allows golf carts to be operated on all streets in the Lee County portion of Boca Grande except for Gulf Boulevard and Gasparilla Road. It has been this way for quite some time. The proposed ordinance would not change this.

Please no more regulations or ordinances. We are regulated to death already. For the most part everything works just fine most of the time. Leave things as they are.

We do not need to change the rules for golf carts. This is another example of our politicians attemptimg to increase taxes on everything we do! Bet the insurance industry is licking their chops just waiting for golf cart owners to have to insure them! And then to have to add seat belts to them! Please leave us alone!
