No charges filed against naked beach walker

No charges have been filed against a 29-year-old man who allegedly exposed himself and simulated a sexual act in front of three women on the beach at 24th Street.

Deputies were called to the area just after noon on April 27. They spoke with the first complainant who told deputies that the man, who appeared to be naked, was using binoculars to look at women sunbathing on the beach.

The second victim told deputies that she saw the man walking toward her on the beach in the same area, and appeared to be looking at women through binoculars.

Another victim told police that she was on the north end of the beach with her 8-month-old baby when she saw the man sitting naked in a beach chair. She attempted to avoid him and walked further down the beach, but soon found the man walking toward her. He then sat on the beach, removed his shorts and went in the water where he began to masturbate. He then walked out of the water while continuing the act.

The report said that when the victim looked at the man he appeared to get angry, got dressed and left.

When deputies arrived they made contact with a 29-year-old man wearing blue shorts and carrying a backpack, which fit the caller’s description. There were binoculars sitting next to him at the time.

After being questioned by sheriff’s deputies the man claimed that he was simply sunbathing, and hadn’t meant to offend anyone. He signed a sworn statement. Deputies said the case was forwarded to the Lee County State Attorney’s office.

No information was available as to why the man was not arrested. A spokesman for the State Attorney’s office said they had no record of the incident.

In an unrelated incident,

On April 23 police say that a 72-year-old Boca Bay man was taken to an area hospital after police and fire officials found him laying on the road next to a golf cart at the intersection of Damfino and East Railroad Avenue.

The Lee County Sheriff’s Office said they received a call just after 6 p.m. of a “drunk pedestrian who fell and can’t get up, and may be combative.”

When the sheriff’s deputy arrived he found the subject, an elderly man, lying on the ground next to the cart.

A Charlotte County ambulance responded to the scene from the Placida Road station to transport the subject to the hospital, as the Boca Grande ambulance was on another call at the time.

On April 27 Lee County Sheriff’s Deputies were called to South Beach Grill for a report of a bar fight, and on their arrival found an unruly patron refusing to leave.

Just after midnight sheriff’s deputies arrived at the bar and found David A. Laskowski, 39, of Englewood standing in the parking lot, being loud and not wanting to leave. Deputies told Laskowski to leave the area, to which he replied he was waiting for friends and would not leave. After several more attempts to make Laskowski leave, deputies arrested him for trespass after warning and transported him to the Lee County Jail. He was later released on his own recognizance.

A theft was reported on April 27, by a Charlotte Harbor man who said that his fishing tackle was stolen from his golf cart at the Boca Grande lighthouse.

The man claimed that he placed the large red bag that contained $400 worth of fishing equipment on the cart and walked away approximately 50 feet to set fishing lines in the water. When he returned to the cart five minutes later the bag was gone.
