Gasparilla Inn and Club on Historic Register
The Gasparilla Inn and Club now has a new prestigious title to add to its already impressive collection – it is now listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
Jack Damioli, the general manager and president of the inn, said that he was notified in a letter at the beginning of May.
“I’m delighted with the distinction of being made an historic landmark,” he said. “I believe the inn has always been one, and now we’ve made it official. It’s something I would like to share not only with guests and members, but the public as well.”
Damioli has received a large roadside marker, six foot tall and five feet wide, that will eventually be placed near the inn to describe the honor bestowed on the inn.
The National Register of Historic Places is a listing of historically significant sites and properties throughout the country. The recognition of being on the list makes the property eligible for federal historical preservation grants, and indicates the inn’s historical relevance to the country’s history and architecture.
The Gasparilla Inn & Club was built 1913 by Peter Bradley and the Boca Grande Land Company. It is urrently owned by the Farish family.
The inn is well known for its historic guests such as Thomas Edison, Henry Ford the George H.W. Bush family and many other notable celebrities.
